Services Provided at Drug Rehabilitation Centers
Drug rehabilitation centers may provide many different services depending on the type of center the facility is. For instance, an inpatient rehabilitation center may offer different services than an outpatient center and a holistic drug rehabilitation center will provide different types of treatment than a free drug rehabilitation center. Ultimately, while each center will have its own individual services and techniques that are used during treatment, most center their programs around the following three steps of treatment: Detox, Counseling and Aftercare.
Drug Rehabilitation Programs Vital First Step: Drug Detox
Drug detox is the process of helping an addict to overcome the physical addiction and dependence that they have on drugs. It is not advisable to try to detox from drugs on your own because the process could be painful and even dangerous. Drug detox is the most vital, first step of a drug rehabilitation program because it is during this time that all physical dependence on drugs is overcome.
Counseling at Drug Rehabilitation Programs
Counseling that is provided at drug rehab centers usually takes one of two forms: individual or one-on-one counseling or group counseling. Counseling is the foundation of any drug rehabilitation program and tends to be offered at every type of drug rehabilitation because it has been proven effective. Counseling can help addicts to make better decisions, learn how to cope with stress and potential triggers that could result in relapse and also learn how to talk openly about their addiction to drugs. It is during these counseling sessions that addicts learn how to work through their problems and really come to terms with their addiction.
Aftercare Programs at Drug Rehab
Aftercare services are provided to help individuals to help them to smoothly transition from drug rehab to outpatient care. The most common types of aftercare programs include 12 step programs and mini counseling sessions that are offered at outpatient rehabilitation programs. Aftercare is a necessary part of the drug rehabilitation process because this type of follow up care assures that addict still has the support and help that they need to continue to maintain their own sobriety despite living outside of a treatment facility. It is this type of drug rehabilitation program that will assure that the addict maintains lasting sobriety.
Drug Rehabilitation Program Lengths
Drug rehabilitation programs may last anywhere from 30 days to more than a year depending on the type of program and the level of the addiction that the addict suffers from. On average, it is recommended that patients seek at least a 90 day drug rehabilitation program to assure the best possible chance for a successful recovery from addiction. Most programs will last at least 90 days because this is length of time that has been clinically proven to be effective for most types of addictions.
